It’s a field that closely examines almost every aspect of our social behavior – from inequality to employment, poverty to crime, aging to family violence – in order to improve our world.

The sociology program includes challenging and innovative courses in criminology, health and health care, social theory, research methods, and data analysis. Many courses include strong research and writing components. You’ll also build teamwork, communication, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with lab work and hands-on experience in the field.��

Through our 3+2 program with Case Western Reserve University, you can launch your professional career in social services with an advanced degree while saving time and money.

Dive in and Do it

Explore the branch of science at the intersection of society and human behavior. Take learning outside the classroom.

Gain an understanding of the research process by assisting a professor with his/her research project or tackling your own. You may get the chance to present your research at an undergraduate research conference, such as the North Central Sociological Association and the Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Student Symposium. At these events, you’ll network with others in the field and learn how to communicate and defend your findings in a professional setting.
Want to find out more about a particular career path? How about spending your summer doing work that will enhance your resume? We help you land internships that fit your interests and goals. Our students have interned at local shelters for abused women, public health offices, child and family services organizations, victims’ right offices, and schools for juveniles in recovery.
One of the best ways to explore the complexities of culture, society and people, is to travel the world. ��«Ӱҵ offers an extensive study abroad program and our students have studied in Japan and South Korea and participated in the “Semester at Sea” program.
Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is a sociology honor society founded in 1920 at the University of Southern California. ��«Ӱҵ has an active chapter of AKD. The honorary society is dedicated to the scientific study of social phenomena for the promotion of human welfare.
We’ve teamed up with to offer students the chance to complete a master’s degree in social work in just five years. Here’s how the program works:

· �� You major in sociology at ��«Ӱҵ and select the social work concentration.

· �� In just three years, you complete your undergraduate work at ��«Ӱҵ—90 hours of coursework that includes all general education and sociology major requirements.

· �� You must apply to, and be accepted by, Case Western Reserve University into their MSW program. Case Western Reserve University is recognized for having one of the best social work graduate programs in the U.S.

· �� Your elective coursework for the undergraduate program is moved to your senior year, which is effectively your first year at Case Western. So, your first year of coursework at Case in their MSW program will count for those elective hours.

· �� You may opt to complete the MSW program on-line rather than be on campus in Cleveland.

· �� After 5 years of study (3 at ��«Ӱҵ, 2 at Case Western) you will have earned a bachelor of sociology degree from ��«Ӱҵ and a master’s degree in social work from .
